What are you? A rock musician, a writer, a philosopher, or a student? Or are you just some
one who likes to play rock music, someone who likes to write, someone who loves knowledge, or someone who loves to learn? People spend a large portion of their lives, if not their whole life, creating these reputations for themselves in order to have a place in society. In order to have a place in this world. This is your life.
These images are like masks that people have surgically attached to their faces, causing them to actually think that they are what they see in the mirror. This causes people to feel trapped, because they feel as though they can’t deviate from what they have been TRYING to become their whole lives. This is your life. They think that they would cease to be a rock musician if they started to listen to gospel. They think that they would no longer be a writer if they began to make films. The thing is that you’re not really these images that you have created. You are much, much, more than those things.
These titles, labels, and false-selves cause people to feel trapped. They cause people to not do the things that they want to do because they feel that they will be going against everything they have ever stood for if they try something new. This is your life, and a lot of people are just connotations of who they really are. Change not only can be good, but it’s also a necessary part of life. Don’t resist it until it’s really too late. Don’t let the fear of breaking out of your planned reputation now, be the cause of an eventual mid-life crisis. YOU ARE ALLOWED TO CHANGE.
“dont wait until its to late” but when is it ever to late to change? Change is good
That’s true Matt. It’s never really too late to change, but I meant “too late” as in being ninety on your deathbed realizing that the amount of regrets you had about your life outweighed the positives, when all of that is avoidable by making the changes now, and constantly going with the changes throughout life.
