Be thankful and don’t give up

Well I just got home from a nice 6 hour shift at work, and when I was in the shower I decided to start another article. I wanted this article to be on two

different topics, which are about being thankful for what you have and not giving up on your dreams.

According to the dictionary this is how they define thankful

thank·ful

[thangk-fuhl]  Show IPA

feeling or expressing gratitude; appreciative.

Now the main word I see when I look at this is appreciative, and this is what I feel most Americans overlook when being thankful. Most Americans seem to forget of the little things and focus on the things that they do not have or that others have. This is what I feel is a very big problem, and is what causes the greedy, the ungrateful, and the “assholes” to exist.  Now some of you might say, “But wanting what other people have causes competition and in this society competition is good.” Don’t get me wrong, competition is good especially when you push yourself for something that you want or others have that you want. The problem is that you forget the little things you have that others do not have and you show a lack of appreciation for the things that you do have. When I wake up everyday these are the things I think to myself that I’m thankful for

  1. waking up
  2. having a roof over my head
  3. waking up in a comfortable bed
  4. being able to walk in my kitchen and decide what i want to eat
  5. being able to shower and brush my teeth
  6. having a family that cares for me and loves me

Now that’s only a few and I could go on for who knows how long. After reading that ask yourself, do you whine to your parents about not having this and not having that, or you want this and they say no and then you rant and rave on how so and so has it and you guys don’t buy me anything and that I pay for everything? Stop right there first off and give thanks to them for allowing you to be able to live comfortably while there are people in South Africa who are passing away everyday because they don’t have nearly a quarter of the stuff you have and if they did they would appreciate it as if you just gave them the the key to life, which is really the problem. We as Americans are not thankful for what we have and continue to focus on what we don’t have. Now I’m just giving my thoughts on this topic and I feel that kids and teens are this way due to the way they are raised, if you are spoiled you will have no appreciation of your belongings and you will abuse the gift in which you have been given. If you work for everything in your life and have responsibilities, when you buy something or when you invest in something it’s as if you have a child and this makes you will love it to the day it dies and so forth.

Another topic I wanted to just touch upon is dreams and not giving up on them. Many Americans have dreams. Almost all do starting back to when you’re a child and wanted to be that fireman or policeman, yet by time we’re 13 we have a new perspective on life and what we want to be or persue. Now the real time in life comes during high school and college where you decide your future pretty much. Many people don’t make it to college because they gave up, they handed the cards over and folded, while others took the risk and stayed in the game. That isn’t it though, one more speed bump comes along that road, your friends are making it and you’re not, or your dreams are not coming true. I promise you it’s not going to happen overnight, it’s not gonna happen in a week, and yes it may happen faster for others, but that doesn’t mean give up and that doesn’t mean to throw it all away because your frustrated or down in life. I’ve had my ups and downs in life but never have I stopped wanting what I want and when I graduate college, and I know its not gonna happen overnight and it’s gonna take long nights of studying, competition, stressful days, but no matter what and no matter how frustrated and stressed I get I will not give up. On the inside of my arm I have Live the Dream, which is my inspiration for when I’m down and looking to give up. I look at that and realize don’t give up, strive for what you want and keep pushing no matter how hard. In saying that I ask you guys to please don’t give up, and to keep going for what you want in life, and no matter how down you are I promise you where there are clouds there is sunshine. I’ve seen to omany people give up and fall to drugs or crime as their answer to getting back up and from there you go no where but down and you have nothing to show for.

So that’s just my little bit of light I wanted to shed on the site and I hope it inspires you guys and opens up your eyes to a new horizon. Thank you for reading and having an open mind
